There is no single commercial auto insurance price that applies to every Texas business. A contractor’s service van, a delivery operation and a trucking company present different exposures. A useful estimate starts with accurate operations and vehicle information.
Prepare a complete quote request
- Business name, address, operations and years in business.
- Vehicle VINs, values, ownership and garaging locations.
- Driver details and driving history.
- Vehicle use, operating territory and annual mileage.
- Current coverage, loss history and requested limits.
- Contracts, filings and any customer insurance requirements.
Compare the full insurance package
Review liability and physical damage separately. Ask whether tools, equipment, cargo and work-related liabilities need other policies. Do not assume that a commercial auto policy automatically covers every business loss.
Trucking has additional requirements
Certain for-hire motor carriers must meet federal financial responsibility requirements. FMCSA lists different minimums based on operations, vehicle weight and commodities. These are not a universal requirement for every business vehicle. Have your agent review your actual authority, cargo and filings before choosing limits.
Make a price comparison useful
Request equivalent coverage and deductible assumptions. Ask for the total policy-term premium, fees, payment schedule and restrictions. Disclose the actual work performed so a low quote is not based on an incomplete operation description.
